What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is an infection of the gums that develops due to an accumulation of plaque on the teeth and along the gum line. Plaque is a film of buildup of untreated bacteria, that turns into a white and sticky substance. Over time, this buildup hardens into a rock -solid material known as Calculus. Calculus produces inflammation and bleeding which in turn causes bone loss.  In addition, this bacteria travels to other parts of body via your bloodstream affecting different organs in your body such as your heart.

How Does Gum Disease Therapy Work?

In order to remove plaque, we will perform scaling and root planning accordingly. This involves using a scaling instrument to remove plaque along your gum line and teeth. Antibiotic medication may also be used to soak deep into the gums and restore healthy gum tissue with the proper nutrients. There are surgical therapy avenues such as:

  A small incision is made in the gums to recontour healthy gum tissue
• Soft Tissue Grafting
  If gumline recession is evident, a tiny amount of gum tissue is removed from the roof of the mouth and re-stitched to your lower gums
