Read on to learn what to do if you are suffering from tooth pain.
There are several causes of tooth pain, some of which are listed below.
Gum disease, also known as Periodontitis, is a severe infection of the gums that can cause a myriad of problems. It builds up plaque which makes it hard to clean your teeth. It also strips away the soft tissue layer and the bone, creating cavities that can be painful.
Gum disease can also expose the tooth root, causing tooth sensitivity.
If you haven’t been following a good dental hygiene routine, the bacteria and plaque will start to accumulate. Too much plaque will form a hard-to-remove layer called tartar which prevents you from cleaning your teeth properly.
When your teeth aren’t being cleaned, they will naturally start to decay and become weak. This can cause tooth pain.
Tooth pain can be easily solved by using various methods, some of which are given below.
You may have seen people pressing a bag of ice to their cheeks. This is usually done to help relieve tooth pain. The ice constricts the blood vessels in the affected area, which provides a relieving effect.
If you are suffering from a toothache, put a cold compress on the area for at least 15-20 minutes. Doing so repeatedly will help you sleep better in bed.
Several over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications are available for tooth pain, like Advil or Tylenol. These pain medications are particularly effective for mild to moderate tooth pain. However, if the problem persists or if you have a severe toothache, we recommend visiting a dentist.
If you are suffering from gum disease, you should rinse your mouth with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. According to a study in 2016, this is quite effective in decreasing the build-up of plaque. It is recommended to use dilute food-grade hydrogen peroxide with water. Avoid swallowing the water as it may cause adverse effects; simply rinse the mouth.
Tooth pain is a common problem but one that can be easily solved by taking some appropriate measures. Various home remedies are quite effective in alleviating pain.
