Some dental procedures can also be very painful, or should we say they used to be painful? However, technological advancements in dentistry have made many procedures simpler and less painful.
Technology has its roots spread far and wide in every industry, and dentistry is no different. However, you’ll be amazed at how technology has changed how dentists work today.
Below are 3 new technologies in dentistry that are nothing short of a significant breakthrough for dentists.
Teledentistry is one of the technologies that has changed how the dental industry operates. Patients no longer have to go all the way to the dental office to get themselves checked. Through teledentistry, it’s now possible for patients and dentists to interact through a video without the need for the two to be together physically. Of course, the dentist can always schedule an in-person consultation if they feel there’s a need for it.
Dentistry is benefitting greatly from Virtual Reality in two ways. First, some dental conditions are rare, but dental students have to experience them so that they can treat them if a patient ever comes to them with that condition. Teachers can have the students see these cases through Virtual Reality, which isn’t actually happening but deliver a near-to-real experience to the students, helping them to learn.
Second, Virtual Reality can also help improve the patient-dentist relationship and reduce pain during procedures for patients. Many dentists have ceiling TVs installed to help patients focus elsewhere while the dentists work. VR headsets can replace these TVs. As a result, the patient’s focus will shift from the pain, and they’ll also feel the dentist is empathetic towards them.
3D-printing technology is helping dentists reduce their costs. Take lab building for dental implants, for example; it can take as much as $100,000 to build a manufacturing lab for dental implants. But with 3D-printing technology, it’ll cost about $20,000 to build dental implants. As a result, the patients can enjoy better prices.
